User Centered Design

• User Analysis

  In order to develop something that meets the needs of your users you need to know who they are and what makes them unique. You must be familiar with your user communities and what tasks they are trying to accomplish. To get it right, you need to know their desired tasks.

• Develop Usability Goals

  You need to map out your route before trying to reach your destination right? In User Centered Design that means developing Usability Goals. It's important to know how quickly your users need to perform a certain task or how many errors per hour are acceptable. Develop Usability Goals and build a test plan to measure your performance against those goals.

• Design

  Do you have a programmer creating your icons or a systems engineer who "enjoys designing windows?" Have you looked at your "total user experience" and designed an integrated solution? Is the product easy to install? Where does a user turn for on-line help? There are many aspects of design, including screen and icon design, user interaction, and information architecture. We are specialists in all aspects of design. We can bring our design expertise, developed through formal training and years of experience, to your application.

• Prototyping and Iterative Design - Are you investing developing resources to build a user interface before you validate it with key stakeholders (product managers, systems engineers, user surrogates, users)?  It's cheaper to iterate during the design phase of software development than the development phase (or worse yet, system test phase!). We can prototype your design (on paper, on screen, on your handheld) using rapid prototyping tools and quickly collect feedback, iterate on the design, and converge to a design that will meet your users' needs.

• Usability Evaluation - Do you have a deployed product? Are you listening to your users? Have you studied how they use your application? Your competitors are likely doing just that. Your users might not feel you are aware of their needs. We can work with your users to understand their needs and design solutions to address them in the next development cycle.
