Announcing Sage HRMS HR Actions I-9 New Release: Version 10.7.1

This release supports recent changes to Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, announced by the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on November 14, 2016. You must install this update in time to support the January 22nd deadline set by USCIS.

Important Upgrade Notice

If you are running an earlier version of Sage HRMS HR Actions you must upgrade to Sage HRMS HR Actions Version 10.6.13 before upgrading the I-9 plugin. Be sure to read the documentation before proceeding with an upgrades, as the process has changed from past releases.

Background

On November 14, 2016 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. The changes they announced are designed to reduce errors and enhance form completion using a computer. You can read more about the changes in the USCIS Press Release.

Employers may continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 03/08/2013 N. through January. 21, 2017. By January. 22, 2017, employers must use the revised form.

Among the changes in the new version, Section 1 asks for “other last names used” rather than “other names used,” and streamlines certification for certain foreign nationals.Other changes include:

  • The addition of prompts to ensure information is entered correctly
  • The ability to enter multiple preparers and translators
  • A dedicated area for including additional information rather than having to add it in the margins
  • A supplemental page for the preparer/translator
