Delphia Consulting partners with clients to test the usability of newly designed or redesigned websites by using an approach called discount usability engineering. The primary characteristics of discount usability engineering are small sample sizes (i.e., few participants), frequent iterations of these small tests, and reliance on direct observations rather than statistically established findings.
The single most valuable usability engineering method is a think-aloud test. In a think-aloud test, a test participant explores your site while continuously verbalizing their reactions to your site. This process enables the usability experience specialist to understand how the participant views your site, making it easy to pinpoint the users’ major misconceptions.
