Delphia Consulting has released a new version of Form I-9 to address revisions introduced by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). While employers have through September 17, 2017 to begin using the revised form, we’ve already updated it in Sage HRMS HR Actions I-9. So, you’re covered! Changes in the new Form I-9

The major change is the addition of the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) as a “List C Acceptable Document.” Also, all certifications of birth issued by the Department of State are now combined into selection C#2 in List C. Importance of internal audits

In a memo issued February 20, 2017, concerning enforcement of Immigration laws, Secretary of Homeland Security, John Kelly, instructed the Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to hire 10,000 new agents and officers as well as the staff needed to support their activities. According to a post on law firm Ogletree Deakins’ blog, ICE Homeland Security Investigations audits are expected to increase to approximately 3,000 in 2017. That’s more than three times the number conducted annually in recent years.

Fines have gone up too, as detailed in an earlier post on our Blog. The U.S. Department of Security’s ICE agency made changes significantly increasing fines for mistakes on Form I-9 in August, 2016.
