“Keeping Roles, Skills, and Expectations Aligned with the Work”
Part 1 of a 2-Part Work in Motion series
Jobs rarely change all at once. New technology takes over part of a process. Responsibilities shift between teams. Customer expectations evolve. Priorities change. New skills become important. Over time, the work employees are actually doing can look very different from the job the organization originally defined.
When roles fail to evolve alongside the business, the effects reach well beyond an outdated job description. Organizations can end up with unclear ownership, duplicated effort, emerging skill gaps, misaligned expectations, and employees being held accountable for work that was never clearly defined.
Join Joe Rotella, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CPBA, for a practical look at how organizations can keep roles aligned with changing business needs. We’ll explore what causes jobs to drift, how to recognize when the definition of a role no longer reflects the work, and what organizations should examine beyond duties and responsibilities, including skills, outcomes, decision-making authority, and connections to broader organizational priorities.
You’ll leave with practical ways to evaluate how work is changing, identify gaps between current roles and business needs, and keep the people doing the work aligned with where the organization is going.
This program is pre-approved for 1 PDC for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® and 1 recertification credit hour for the PHR® or SPHR®. A certificate of completion will be provided to all attendees.
